North Cyprus Herbarium is a research establishment which is located in the mountain ridge of Kyrenia in the Alevkaya Forest Station. It is hardly 100 meters from the Sourp Magor Monastery. During the British time, a large herbarium was made in Nicosia, this, however, was inaccessible for the people of Northern Cyprus, Dr Deryck Viney, an English botanist, opened this herbarium in the north in 1986.
The collection at the herbarium, which is mainly by Dr Viney, is simply amazing, there are pressed plant specimens, spirit collections, line drawings, photographs and many more.
The Herbarium is not a tourist attraction but is open for everyone who is genuinely interested.
